Lowell, MA Police Department

The Lowell Police Cadet Program is a paid, benefitted, civilian position within the Lowell Police Department. With a two-year commitment, this program is primarily geared toward individuals with an interest in pursuing a career in law enforcement and experiential learning in our community policing model.

The Lowell Police Cadet Program aims to develop and refine qualities such as maturity, responsibility, character, teamwork, leadership, civic duty, and personal health & fitness.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Attend training sessions and civil service preparation classes.
  • Complete physical assessments.
  • Maintain records.
  • Assist with community events. 
  • Complete problem-oriented policing project. 
  • Make frequent contact with residents, police officers, and supervisors.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including weekends. 
  • Other duties assigned.

Qualifications

  • Lowell resident between the ages of 19 ½ and 23.
  • High School Diploma or GED. 
  • U.S. Citizen or naturalized citizen. 
  • Valid Massachusetts driver’s license.
  • Must be able to pass a background investigation, medical and psychological exam, and a drug test.
  • Must be able to meet the physical qualifications required for appointment to the Lowell Police Department. 
  • Interest in law enforcement.
  • Applicants pursuing higher education preferred.
