Criminal Investigation

Criminal Investigations is responsible for investigating all serious crimes, such as homicides, kidnappings, armed robberies, and violent assaults.

Gang Unit

The Gang Unit is a uniformed patrol function that interfaces and works with youth serving agencies. The gang unit also assists other investigative units within the police department and utilizes data driven approaches to gang prevention, intervention and suppression efforts.

Special Investigation

Special Investigations is responsible for enforcement of all narcotics, gaming, and vice related crimes within the city of Lowell.

Taskforce

The Lowell Police Department works with our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners in our ongoing efforts to address those individuals and organizations responsible for serious crimes in the City of Lowell. We assign officers to various task forces with these partners on both a short and long term basis.

Evidence

Members of the Evidence Section are responsible for maintaining the chain of custody of all evidence recovered by the LPD. Throughout the year, the Evidence Section responded to crime scenes in order to recover evidence and examine latent fingerprints, take photographs, and process any other evidence in order for it to be submitted to the State Police Lab.

Crime Analysis and Intelligence Unit

The Crime Analysis and Intelligence Unit (CAIU) is responsible for collecting, tracking, and analyzing all crime data from the City of Lowell. They use data to identify crime trends, locate hot spots, and uncover the underlying drivers of crime in the City. They also create intelligence bulletins on topics such as gangs, domestic violence, and officer safety information, which are disseminated throughout the department.
