Lowell Police Launch Body Worn Camera Pilot Program

The Lowell Police Department is launching its body worn camera program today with a one year pilot program of 30 officers before launching with the entire police department next year.

The initial rollout will consist of ten officers per shift, broken down to eight patrol officers and two supervisors on each shift respectively. An additional 215 cameras will go into service next year to equip the remainder of the department.

“I want to thank everyone involved in getting this program up and running for all of their hard work,” said Interim Police Superintendent Barry Golner. “This will allow us to show the public we serve that our officers perform their duties with the highest degree of integrity and professionalism. The program will ensure transparency and continue to build public trust.”
